In 2004 Eccleston Juniors and Heskin FC merged to form Eccleston & Heskin FC. With funding from the Eccleston Parish Council, the Sports Foundation, the LFA, varied fund raising activities and the financial support of several club benefactors, the new changing facilities, amongst the best in the county, were completed.
Heskin FC were a long established club and had a long and successful history in the Preston & District League. They won the Guildhall Cup twice in the 1940s and were successful in winning several trophies in the 70s.
Eccleston Junior FC was founded in June 1976 by Geoff Smithies and Len Fulton (ex Man Utd). The full committee at that time was John Lucas (Chairman Geoff Smithies(Secretary), Jim Hugo (Treasurer), Len Fulton (Manager, John Noblett, Graham Hailwood, Ernie Marsden, Peter Crompton, Jack Hargreaves and Colin Horsfield. The team was part of the Leyland and Chorley Junior Football League. The first team played in the Under 14 age group and formed with local lads aged under 13 and 14. Their matches were played on Sagar Street, which is now Middlewood Close.
The team finished 4th in the league winning 14 of their 23 games and losing 9. 115 goals wre scored and 50 conceded.
The first squad was: Andrew Cowland, Tony Forster, Neil Smithies, Peter Baxendale, Graham Lee, Phil Deans, Sean Drinkwater, Craig Hogo, Stuart Noblett, Dave Marsden, Ian Fulton, Vic Davies (Captain), Mark Hailwood, Gary Ashcroft, Andrew Burgess and Ian Galliers.
We are delighted that one of these players is still active at Eccleston & Heskin, Mark Hailwood is Assistant Manager of our successful under 15s who play in the the Central Lancashire Junior Football League, A Division..
The club has developed significantly since its formation and has provided several league champions at various age levels. The club currently has teams at under 8, 9 and 10 playing in the Mid Lancs Colts League. Teams from under 11 to under 15 playing in the Central Lancs Junior Football League. We have open age Saturday teams in the Preston & District Premier Division and 4th Division. Our other open age team has already established itself a formidable outfit in the Lancashire Evening Post Sunday Football League having been promoted to Division 3 in its first season. The club's under 18 team has played its football in the youth divisions of the highly successful LEPSFL.
The club has a vision for the future and hopes to continue its development by gaining Chartership status with the FA in the coming months.
